SPRINGFIELD – State Rep. Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield) released the following statement in reaction to Governor Rauner’s State of the State address delivered to a joint session of the General Assembly today. “The Governor hit on three critical priorities I share: worker’s comp reform, property tax relief and prioritizing education funding.
In my first week as a new State Representative, I had an official study conducted that shows a direct cost savings of $190 million to state and local governments in Illinois if our worker’s comp rates were merely average compared to other states, as opposed to one of the highest. This is a good place for us to start. If the state can save that much money by enacting a common-sense reform, imagine how many new jobs could be created by the men and women of our small business community and larger employers alike if they could compete on a more level playing field when it comes to worker’s comp. As a small business owner and father of five, education and economic issues are very important to me. Our local schools are among the best in the state and we need to keep it that way.”
