SPRINGFIELD – State Rep. Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield) released the following statement in reaction to Governor Rauner’s budget address delivered to a joint session of the General Assembly today. “Today we got an honest report on the budget and a blueprint for the path ahead, one that is built on several core priorities: public safety, education and paying our bills.
The Governor pointed out that if we don’t take action to expand the economic pie, the people of Illinois will be left to fight over smaller and smaller slices. The State’s budgetary challenges are no secret, but for the first time they are actually being acknowledged. I’ve set an example as a new member of the General Assembly by reducing my own office budget by 11% and not taking a legislative pension. Together we stand at a starting point in overcoming our state’s budget challenges. Reaching the destination will require bipartisan cooperation beginning right now and each day moving forward as we craft a new budget.”
Rep. Batinick serves the 97th House District which includes portions of Oswego, Montgomery, Naperville, Plainfield, Bolingbrook, Joliet, and Shorewood.
