PLAINFIELD – State Rep. Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield) has announced the official launch of his Summer Reading Club for students entering kindergarten through sixth grades. The program is offered to encourage reading among local youth and promote the lifelong benefits of literacy.
Free brochures are available for download on Rep. Batinick’s website by clicking HERE or by calling Rep. Batinick’s District Office at (815) 254-0000. Students are challenged to read eight books over their summer break. Books from local library programs are accepted; and books of 150 pages or more count as two.
After a student completes his/her reading list, they must have a parent or guardian certify the reading was accomplished and return the signed form on the brochure to Rep. Batinick’s office by the deadline of Monday, August 17.
Students who successfully complete the reading challenge will be invited with family members to a free recognition party in early autumn, where Rep. Batinick will present summer readers with an official certificate from the State of Illinois celebrating their achievement. Refreshments will also be provided. Participants will also receive free passes to Siegel’s Cottonwood Farms pumpkin fest, and an ice cream party hosted by Rep. Batinick.
“As a father, I encourage reading in our home and support my kids’ reading assignments in the classroom,” Rep. Batinick said. “Our Summer Reading Club is a way to support the efforts of parents and our local libraries by promoting reading among grade school students in Kendall and Will Counties year-round.”
Participating students must reside in Illinois’ 97th Representative District, which includes the Kendall and Will County communities of Oswego, Montgomery, Naperville, Plainfield, Bolingbrook, Joliet, and Shorewood.
