A Guide to Celebrating the Fourth of July in the 97th District

There are many different events happening around State Representative Mark Batinick’s 97th District to properly honor independence day.  The following communities have great events planned to celebrate the Fourth of July, some of them starting on July 3rd:


The Village hosts their festivities on Wednesday, July 3rd ,starting with the Plainfield Park District’s Patriotic Picnic & Fireworks.  This is located at  Plainfield Central High School, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive, from 6 p.m.—9:30 p.m. 

This event will follow this schedule:

  • 6 p.m.: Raising of the Flag followed by decorating of bikes
  • 6:30 p.m.: Kids’ Patriotic Bike Parade and Family Fun
  • 7 p.m.: Dance Performance by Park District Dance Camps
  • 8:15 p.m.: Inflatables close and Retire the Colors led by the Plainfield American Legion.
  • Fireworks at dark


The annual Ribfest is happening in Naperville and not only includes award winning ribs, but live music, carnival rides, and fireworks!

The Ribfest Fireworks will be on July 3rd at 9:30p.m. in Knoch Park, 724 S. West St.


The fireworks display will be held at Prairie Point Park, 4120 Plainfield Road, between Plainfield and Grove Roads, starting at 9:30 p.m.!  In case of bad weather, follow the Village of Oswego here for updates.

Parking will be available at Traughber Junior High School, Eastview Elementary, Prairie Point Elementary and Oswego High School. Handicapped accessible parking will be available at the Oswego School District’s bus lot, 100 Plank Road.


This year marks the city’s 73rd annual July 4th Celebration.  The impressive firework display will begin around 9:20 p.m. at Memorial Stadium, 3000 W. Jefferson St in Joliet with gates opening at 6 p.m.! Parking and admission are free!

The fireworks display will be synchronized to a soundtrack broadcast on STAR 96.7 FM radio.  There will also be pre-show entertainment before the fireworks!


The “All American Celebration” will be at the Bolingbrook Golf Club on July 4th starting at 3pm with fireworks following the national anthem at 9:25 p.m.

The event will feature more than a dozen local restaurants, food trucks and a BBQ Buffet from 4 to 7 p.m. Two live bands will perform: The Boy Band at 5:30 p.m. and ARRA at 7:45 p.m. Admission is free!
