Batinick’s 97th District Enters Tier One Mitigations

PLAINFIELD—With Governor Pritzker’s recent announcement of Region 7 moving into Tier 1 of COVID-19 mitigations, State Representative Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield) is praising the latest changes, which mirror the decreased COVID-19 numbers in his 97th District.

Batinick’s 97th District includes portions of Will and Kendall Counties which belong to Illinois’ health care Regions 7 and 2. Region 7 moving into Tier 1 will affect 97th District communities in Will County including Plainfield, Shorewood, and Naperville.

The recent changes will take effect immediately and will resume indoor bar and restaurant service, accommodate higher capacity limits for meetings, events, and gatherings, and more. Capacity limits and public health restrictions are still applicable. 97th District residents are urged to review public health guidance and requirements before participating in any Tier 1 activities.

“I’m pleased Governor Pritzker announced that Region 7 will move into Tier 1 of COVID-19 mitigations, opening indoor dining and expanding the availability of additional services for the communities I represent,” Rep. Batinick said. “Collaboration and thoughtful decision-making will help us respond to and eventually overcome this public health emergency. I urge residents of the 97th District to continue to wear masks, practice social distancing, and frequently wash your hands while we continue to fight this virus together.”

This announcement follows 11 consecutive days that Region 7’s positivity rate was under the 12% threshold. Region 7 also marked 11 consecutive days with greater than or equal to 20% threshold for ICU beds and 3 days of decreased COVID-19 patients in the hospitals. For Tier 1 mitigations to go into effect for regions experiencing declining COVID-19 spread, the test positivity rate must be below 8% for three consecutive days, available ICU and medical/surgical bed capacity must be greater than or equal to 20% for three consecutive days, and there must be no sustained increase in the number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals.
