Rep. Batinick Statement on House Passage of HB3447

Springfield – In response to the Illinois House’s passage of HB3447 on Wednesday, April 21, State Representative Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield) issued the following statement:

“I am very concerned about the passage of HB3447 in the House last week. When Colorado implemented similar legislation in 2019, Denver saw more than double the overdoses involving fentanyl in the following year. I voted ‘Nay’ on HB3447 because of my deep concerns about its consequences in Illinois. I urge the Senate not to pass this detrimental legislation. An amount of fentanyl that is enough to kill thousands of people should not be a misdemeanor. I welcome constituent feedback on this important issue.”
