Rep. Batinick on Pritzker Signing of Legislative Maps

Plainfield – In response to Governor Pritzker signing into law the partisan-drawn legislative maps on Friday, State Representative Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield) released the following statement:

“In 2018, Governor Pritzker made a commitment to Illinoisans that he would not sign partisan maps. Today, he turned his back on that commitment. I repeat that what our state needs is a truly independent redistricting process. We are living in an ever-growing partisan world and that is not good for democracy. Partisan maps would only exacerbate that situation. Fairly-drawn maps would make for more competitive general elections and better representation for Illinoisans. The maps signed into law today were a step in the wrong direction for Illinois.”
